The automotive clutch is located within the flywheel housing between the engine and transmission. The clutch assembly is secured to the rear face of the flywheel with bolts, and its output shaft serves as the transmission's input shaft. During vehicle operation, the driver can depress or release the clutch pedal as needed to temporarily disengage or gradually engage the engine and transmission, thereby interrupting or transmitting power from the engine to the transmission.

Performance Requirements for Clutches

Key performance metrics for clutches include: engagement speed (time from depressing the clutch to complete power disconnection), disengagement stability (whether unexpected disengagement occurs under normal driving conditions), and durability (maintaining good performance after prolonged use). An excellent clutch should feature high engagement speed, stable disengagement, and good durability.
